Passion, Skill, Team...Champions!!!!

Whitney Young capped off its City Championship run with a 2-0 victory over Juarez HS on Thursday night at North Park University. It is the first Boys Soccer City Championship for WY. During the CPS Tournament, Young outscored its opponents 28-3! In the Championship, Cody Wilkins scored  in the 60th minute on a header. Matt Joss' driven pass was flicked on goal by Wilkins. Juarez' keeper was able to get a hand on it, but was unable to keep out of the side netting. For the game's second goal, Victor Mensah played a perfect through-ball to a streaking Justin Taylor. Taylor blasted his shot near-post past the charging keeper. Taylor received MVP honors for his play during the game. During the tournament Taylor, tallied 8 goals and 4 assists. Young's defenders were the unsung heroes of the tournament. Young's keepers Charlie Stanton and Will Veitch combined for 4 shutouts and allowed no more than one goal in any game. All-City Defender Matt Joss led a defense that kept solid attacking teams from having good chances on Young's net.

The boys will continue their season on Tuesday vs. Kennedy in the IHSA Regionals at De LaSalle HS at 6:00pm.
